Did you know that you can paint cork board to give it a completely different, non-cork look? Try it sometime! Without a glass front to the frame, this display is as quick and simple as it gets. A kid could probably make this display , intended to resemble a hide rack, almost independently. I actually have one of these in progress shh! A shadow box is plenty roomy enough to display patches, even if you insert an extra padded backing so that you can easily pin your patches for display.

We loved the styles and the creative ways people found to add colour, but we mostly loved the way that distressed denim jackets featuring things like patches were worn by both guys and girls. No matter who you were, you could show your support for the people, bands, politics, or things you supported and liked by sewing or ironing patches onto your favourite jacket! Besides, making your own means you can create any picture or design you please! Check out their tutorial to see how they created differently shaped gems!

They show you how to base your designs off the cute little gifs and stickers you find on your computer and make them for yourself so you can affix them as a patch to whatever you please. Check out how Armour made their embroidery a little bit easier by using a classic cross stitching hoop!

There are several things you might need for the project. The artwork you choose, sturdy fabric material or you can transfer right onto the clothing , and the transfer paper, like this one. Take a picture of the artwork and upload it to your computer.

Load the transfer paper into your printer and print out the image letting it dry thoroughly before continuing. Place the transfer image face down on your patch fabric on an ironing board.

Follow the instructions that come with the transfer paper. Make sure that your patch material is either a material that will not shred along the edges or that the edges are bound in some way to keep the patch from unraveling. Iron on patches is pretty much similar to paper patches. However, you can purchase a whole bunch of ready-made designs to personalize any garment. It cost really little, and you will have lots of creative fun with it. But in fact, you can turn any handmade piece into an iron-on patch by using Heat and Bond adhesive.

All you will need is the adhesive, an iron with an ironing board, a clean towel or a piece of butcher paper and a pair of scissors. Place the Heat and Bond Adhesive on the patch and cover with the clean towel or butcher paper. Iron over the Adhesive paper, so it adheres to your patch. Make sure that you get the heat on the entire piece, so the adhesive will be transferred to the entire surface.

Again place the towel or butcher paper over your masterpiece. Stitch the pattern through both layers. Getting through the stabilizer can take effort, so be sure to use a strong needle. Trim around the embroidered shape, leaving a bit of space for stitching the edges. For this method of patch making, cutting more geometric shapes is best. Use permanent peel and stick fabric adhesive on the back of the patch. This material comes in sheets or on a roll as shown.

Cut a single piece or strips to fit the patch within the stitched edges. To attach the patch, peel off the self-adhesive backing and press the patch onto your backpack or even a notebook. Just remember that this type of adhesive is permanent, so removing your patch could prove quite tricky. For those times when you want to sport a patch temporarily, why not make a pin that looks like a badge?

This method is also great for gift-giving. To make pin patches, you will need your embroidery fabric, a piece of felt, and a bar-style pinback. Now you can attach your new pin to any article of clothing or accessory and move it whenever you wish.
